Plumbing problems are a common occurrence in every household. They can range from clogged drains and toilets to leaking pipes. Some of them can be easily fixed with help from professional plumbers. Sites like https://www.fixitrightplumbing.com.au/blocked-drains-melbourne/ have a number of plumbing resources to help.

It is important to be aware of these issues so that you can take immediate action when they occur. Read on to learn more about the six most common plumbing issues in a house.

    Dripping Faucets

A dripping faucet is not only annoying, but it also wastes water. A leaky faucet can cause significant damage and result in high utility bills. A dripping tap should be fixed immediately. The first step is to turn off the water supply valves under the sink. This will prevent water from shooting out in the event you accidentally break off a part or have to remove it.

The cause of the problem is usually a broken seal that corrodes over time. The washer, which forms the seal between the valve seat and spout, wears out and needs to be replaced. This is a relatively simple job for homeowners, but you will need special tools and you might be better off leaving it to a plumber.

Leaking pipes are another common plumbing issue that can lead to expensive repairs if left unchecked. You can usually spot the issue if you find puddles under your house or see an unexplained increase in your water bill.

    Clogged Drains

Clogged drains are a common problem for homeowners and something that can quickly turn into a plumbing emergency. They happen when a buildup of hair, food scraps, soap scum and other debris blocks a drainpipe completely.

When a clog is present, wastewater has nowhere to go and will start to back up into fixtures like toilets and bathtubs. These backups usually start at the lowest drains in your home because they are closest to the main sewer line.

If all your drains start to slow down, this is a sign of a complete blockage in the main sewer line. This is a serious problem that will need to be addressed immediately before it leads to costly repairs. The best way to avoid a clogged drain is to keep solid items like shampoo lids and small toys out of your drain pipes. Also, make sure to flush only toilet paper and waste from your trash disposal.

    Burst Pipes

When pipes burst, water can pour in through holes or cracks in walls and ceilings. This creates significant water damage and may lead to mold and mildew growth. If you suspect your pipes have burst, turn off your water immediately to limit the damage and call a plumber as soon as possible.

Large puddles in your home are one of the most common signs that a pipe has burst, but you should also keep an eye out for other issues. Unusual colors in your

water, a metallic taste or a sudden increase in your water bill could all indicate a leaking or burst pipe.

If you can, try to move furniture and other items away from the area of a broken pipe to minimize damage and make it easier for your plumber to access when they arrive. Plugging the leak with a piece of rubber, wood and a clamp can help to temporarily stop the flow while you wait for a plumber.

    Water Heater

Plumbing problems like leaky faucets, clogged drains, running toilets, and low water pressure can affect your house’s comfort and lead to costly damage if left untreated. However, with the help of a trusted home inspector, these issues can be detected early on and resolved before they worsen.

If the paint on your ceiling or walls starts bubbling, it’s a sign of moisture buildup, most likely due to a leak in the roof or plumbing system. Fortunately, this issue is easy to spot and fix.

If your bathtub or shower is scalding, it’s probably due to calcium buildups. While a certain amount of this buildup is normal, you can reduce it by cleaning your fixtures with vinegar. If you have trouble removing this buildup, contact a plumber for advice and assistance. Also, if you hear rattling pipes or notice signs of water discoloration, these are strong indicators that the plumbing supply line is leaking. Before attempting any DIY fixes, be sure to locate your main water shut-off valve and wear protective gloves. It is always best to leave plumbing problems to the professional plumbers.
